The enchanting Etruscan Necropolis of CERVETERI named “Banditaccia” is the largest necropolis of the ancient world come down to us. It is an important example of funerary architecture and is surrounded by a beautiful park of high landscape value. Its visitors have the impression of being in a real city with blocks, main and secondary roads, where, carved into the tuff rock, overlook tombs that reproduce old houses and even their furniture. A true city of the deads where the evolution of tomb types ... from the oldest burials by cremation of the "Villanova" period, to circular mounds, to graves dice, to the hypogea, reflects the urban layout of the settlements from VII to II centuries. B.C.
The Etruscan Necropolis of TARQUINIA is rich in chamber tombs which are decorated with the most complete documentation of the development of painting from the sixth to second century B.C.. In the underground rooms, the close contact with the Etruscan culture inspires a peculiar charm. The colours of the Tomb of the "Hunting and Fishing" and many others, remain imprinted indelibly in the memory of the visitor. Charm and wonder: Tomb of the "Lions" is notable for the vibrant colours, with two elegant dancers, and a dancer who recalls iconographic and anatomical characteristics of the famous Apollo Vejo; the Tomb of the "Jugglers" proposes a series of games in honour of the dead: a young man throws the rings to squeeze into a candelabrum supported by a dancer from the characteristic clothing.
