It is interesting to visit the Ancient Village of SUTRI Nature Park with its amphitheater, Necropolis, Mitreo and garden of Villa Savorelli. Sutri is an ancient village, dating back prior to the sixth century B.C., situated on the Via Francigena; called the “Gate of Etruria” by the Roman historian Livy as a hinge between Etruscans and Falisci. Franceta Gateway gives access to the ancient Etruscan-Roman fortified village. The land of the Nature Park focuses mainly on the area surrounding the historic Villa Savorelli, which presents a fine example of Italian garden, the remaining protected area is represented by a hilly area on tufaceous substrate bedrock, arising from the storage of eruptive materials of volcanic origin. The Amphitheatre is a unique structure of the first century B.C. completely excavated in the tufa; the Etruscan-Roman Necropolis preserves tombs of various types.
Fair is the Mitreo transformed into a Christian basilica (now called Madonna del Parto or of the Child) that houses an interesting fresco of the Pilgrimage on Mount Gargano, near the cave of St. Michael, contains over two thousand six hundred years history and cultural stratification still intelligible through the forms, the paintings and mystery that emanates. Also worth to be seen are the remains of a castle where, according to tradition, Charlemagne has resided.
