The Terme Taurine archaeological-botanical Park in CIVITAVECCHIA consists principally of a Roman bath complex, whose ruins are an important historical record; rooms and pools are still partly embellished with mosaics. Current excavations are bringing to light additional witnesses. The park is home to a garden area, the so called “Horti Traianei”. It is possible to arrange an excursion – “pursuit of the connections between the Romans and Etruscans” -: knowledge and walking allow socialization and the verification of everybody capacity.
After visiting the park, the walk starts to know about the surrounding area; walking path winds around the "Ficoncella" (the site of Roman Aquae Tauri), with the possibility to see a part of the Traianeo Aqueduct nearby. The tour can be extended along the ditch of Fiumaretta – passing nearby the “old Millstones” - and then proceeding towards to the city center. The walking route may vary from 4 to 7 km.
For those who like the sea the Marina Riva di Traiano may be the answer; here you can rent a boat and go sailing. Some quality restaurants offer good seafood and excellent local gastronomy.
Let's have a stop to taste local cuisine, associated especially with seafood, like famous fish soup. A local tradition is to eat sea urchins, especially in the winter months of february and march: take the meat to taste with chunks of bread or suck directly from the urchins cutted into two parts.
