BOLSENA, of Etruscan origin and famous for the “Miracle of the Eucharist”, is situated on the banks of the famous lake. Here, in besides the Monaldeschi thirteenth-century castle, which houses an important Museum, famous is the Collegiate Church of St. Cristina, where the miracle was identified as the "Miracle of the Corpus Domini”. The Collegiate Church consists of three distinct parts developed over the centuries around a primitive catacomb which has grew around the tomb of St. Cristina: the Basilica, the New Chapel of the Miracle, the Grotto of St. Cristina and the catacombs. Each year, Bolsena celebrates two anniversaries with special solemnity the feast of “Mysteries of St. Cristina” and the Feast of Corpus Christi.
